In this video ‘Why do we need protein and physical activity‘ by the University of the Netherlands, Professor Luc van Loon is giving a simplified (layman’s) overview (in English) of the research that has been performed in our research group during the last decade. It explains the role of food and physical activity as the key factor that stimulate muscle protein synthesis and, therefore, regulate muscle maintenance and allow muscle growth.

Absence of food or physical activity will lead to muscle and strength loss and, at some point, the loss of functional capacity and independence. A combination of ample dietary protein with rigorous physical activity or exercise are needed to ensure more active, healthy aging.
