| Welcome to
the website of the M3-research unit
This website aims to provide some background information
on the activities of the M3-research unit, which operates
within the Department of Human Movement Sciences of the Faculty
of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) at Maastricht
University Medical Centre (MUMC) and is formed by a number
of PhD students, post-doc researchers, technicians and staff
members of the Departments of Movement Sciences and Human
Biology. The M3-research unit specializes in in vivo
human metabolic research, and the main fields of interest
include skeletal muscle metabolism, exercise metabolism, sports
and/or clinical nutrition, type 2 diabetes and aging. Our
research aims to increase knowledge that will enable us to
define the most effective exercise and/or nutritional interventions
to improve health and/or functional performance in chronic
metabolic disease (obesity and type 2 diabetes) and aging.
The latter are investigated on a whole-body, tissue and cellular
level, with skeletal muscle as the main tissue of interest.
The use of stable isotope methodology has a special interest
in this group.
On this website we present the research, expertise and available
infrastructure that is being used by our research unit. We
will present each of the members of our group, their research
interests, current projects and our publications. We hope
this website will be informative to our visitors and for more
questions feel free to contact us.
